An approach to assessing the economic complexity of Russian regions by type of economic activity is proposed. The approach is based on the standard method for assessing economic complexity. The question of choosing the threshold value of the indicator of the revealed comparative advantages of RCA is considered. 0-1 matrices were constructed for sectors and types of economic activity at different thresholds. Their structures correctly reflect the idea behind the index of economic complexity. As a result of correlation analysis, it is shown that at threshold 1, the index of economic complexity by sectors and the index of economic complexity by types of economic activity are more resistant to threshold changes than at other threshold values. A comparative analysis of economic complexity assessments for 82 sectors and 24 types of economic activity for 2019 was carried out. An assessment of the economic complexity of regions by types of economic activity can be useful in solving management problems aimed at diversifying the regional economy and increasing its economic complexity.
